The Dolomiti Superbike is a race that has appeal in a way that is distinct from any marathon I have raced before. Like many races I don’t know much about, most of the appeal is let loose by the name alone: it’s big, it’s tough, it’s Euro, and it’s in a beautiful part of the world. Arriving at the Dolomites in Northern Italy, near the Austrian boarder, the rocky mountaintops rising in all directions from the greenest of green hillsides look like pieces have fallen off the moon. Are they mountains or walls? Imst, Austria

In my experience, there seem to be two types of holiday makers. Those who like to plan and those who don’t. Like most either/ors, there are not really just two, but many types, sliding in along a continuum from one extreme to the other. I go well with a loose plan: reach ‘x’ place eventually, but allow enough time to take in whatever might surprise and amaze along the way.

Outer Edge – Issue 32

The pages of Outer Edge magazine pull together stories, tips and experiences from a whole range of outdoorsy adventures. I wrote an article for the June/July issue that looks at the Solo 24 Hour MTB National Champs held at Canberra’s Majura Pines over Easter. Choosing a new pair of cycling knicks is no easy task. There are so many brands, styles, fabric technologies and chamois features to choose from. They’re also quite tight, have the potential to be very unflattering and many new female cyclists find the whole process particularly daunting when their local bike shop is staffed by young men.
