The Western Sydney Mountain Bike Club held a XC race at their Yellomundee track on the Sunday of the June long weekend. A good turn out saw some quality racing, with the A Grade women’s field made up of riders who’ll also be competing against each other during next weekend’s state round at Ourimbah. There were also a lot of people out there just riding for the fun of it. I admit to being slightly jealous of their ability to chat and ride, while I huffed and puffed as though I was auditioning for the role of the Big Bad Woof.
I really enjoy racing on this track, and used the event to try out some different techniques for getting the most out of my body during racing. My bike was feeling magic, and the Verofit energy drink I’ve been using this year seems to be making it a lot easier to keep a clear head in the closing stages of the race. I managed to just creep away with the win, but my legs were pretty sore the next day – there must be some muscles there that haven’t been used that hard in a while! Let’s hope they’re feeling strong again for Ourimbah!
