Vaude have recently released some female specific packs. I’ve been super lucky to have the chance to use a “Roomy 17 + 3” which, like the earlier mentioned “Women’s Spray Jacket II“, pretty much does what the name suggests, with the added attention to detail that makes this brand keep on hitting the mark. This back pack is big enough to fit most of the things an over-prepared gear freak would want to use in a day, and light enough that it’s still a good choice on a wallet, phone, keys and jumper outing.
The design includes a number of useful features that bump the pack from a weekend item, to one that is useful every day: a rain jacket for surprise downpours, a blinking rear light attachment point, expandable capacity (that’s where the 17 + 3 comes in), breathable back, trendy city colours, reflecty bits, water bladder hole and several pockets for keeping things organised. Where it’s really won me over though is the lady friendly fit – snug and centred around the waist, light on the shoulders, straps which don’t get in the way and have adjustability to spare. Unlike the other features, fit is perhaps something must to be tried to be believed.
Women’s specific products need enough demand behind them before it makes sense for someone to start producing them in earnest. Given the range of sizes the pack comes in, it’s awesome to realise how many women are getting hooked on an active, sporty lifestyle.
