Western Sydney XC Series – Rd 3

Fiona Dick makes the tech bits look easy during the post-race social ride.

By the time I reached the rego queue for Sunday’s WSMTB club round, I was literally bursting with energy to race.  I’ve been spending long days in the computer room at uni recently followed by night rides on the wind trainer and it’s added up to make me feel like I haven’t raced in years. I’ve even been finding myself wondering if I’ll still know how to ride singletrack next time I see it!Continue reading “Western Sydney XC Series – Rd 3”

Adventure Medic First Aid Course

The team at Max Adventure contacted me after the Dirt Works 100km race and offered me a voucher to attend a 2 day Adventure  First Aid course run by Adventure Medic.  The voucher was offered as a thank you for stopping with an injured rider and friend out on the course until more qualified help arrived.  A reward like this was completely unexpected, but needless to say, I’m pretty thrilled to have the chance to learn a lot more about what to do next time (and there will be a next time) I’m out riding and someone has a nasty fall.  It’s good timing too, as my current Senior First Aid certificate will need renewing this year.

Enormous thanks to Max Adventure and to Adventure Medic for donating an entry into one of these courses.  I’m looking forward to booking in a non-race weekend that lines up with the course calendar!

The feel of the pack when worn is something that surprises a lot of women when I pass it around for people to try on at skills clinics, on social rides, or if someone’s complaining about shoulder discomfort from a different pack option.Continue reading “Long Term Thoughts: Vaude Roomy Pack”

Dirt Works 100km Race

Waking up in St Albans on Sunday morning, before the start of the Dirt Works 100km race, I was blown away by the amazing scenery, but wondered if I should be a little concerned that all I could see, in any direction, were large, green, misty hills.  Fortunately I’d had a good, long look at the altitude map for the event and knew there were only two super steep ascents.  The view of the hills around me now promised spectacular views this event would allow us as we traversed the terrain above.Continue reading “Dirt Works 100km Race”
